The $24-year career in limbo

Sara Thornton, a 51-year-old BBC weather presenter, has been a fixture on British TV screens for nearly two and a half decades. But after feeling stagnant in her role, she's decided it's time for a change.

Thornton, who has been a weather presenter since 2002, says she's been 'treading water' at work, lacking the adrenaline and sense of progression she craves.

From forecast to drama school

Thornton will be heading back to the classroom to study acting full-time from September, a first step in her hoped-for new career as a professional actor . she's secured a place at Drama Studio London, where she'll study towards a master's degree in professional acting.

Thornton says she's 'excited but scared' about the transition, but feels a sense of relief at finally pursuing her passion for acting.

Podcasting and monetization

Thornton is also launching a podcast called Drama School At 50, which she hopes will help her monetize her new acting career. The podcast will focus on her experiences as a mature student in drama school.

Thornton says she's eager to share her story and provide a platform for other mature students who may be considering a career change.

What auditors flagged in the May filing

Thornton's decision to leave the BBC has raised eyebrows, but she insists she's not leaving for financial reasons. She says she's been fortunate enough to have a stable income and is now looking to pursue her passion for acting.
