A personal account details the unsettling experience of unknowingly meeting convicted rapist Ross Davidson, formerly Ross William Wild, four years before his arrest for a series of horrific crimes against women.
A Rising Star's Debut
In October 2018, Davidson made his debut as the new vocalist for Spandau Ballet, replacing Tony Hadley following a dispute over royalties. The band had been searching for a suitable replacement, and Davidson’s performance in ‘Million Dollar Quartet’ caught the attention of Martin Kemp.
Impressions from the Band
Bandmates were initially impressed with Davidson’s vocal ability and personality. Steve Norman noted the ‘power in his voice,’ while Kemp described him as someone who ‘gave me goosebumps every time he sang.’
The Concert and After-Party
The author attended the Spandau Ballet concert, observing Davidson’s energetic stage presence and contrasting attire compared to Hadley’s usual suits. The setlist featured classic Spandau Ballet songs, and Davidson even shared vocal duties with Gary Kemp during outfit changes.
Following the performance, an after-party was held. The Kemp brothers remained with family, politely declining photo requests. Davidson, however, was approachable and readily posed for a group photo with the author and their friends.
A Chilling Realization
The author reflects on the chilling realization that they had unknowingly introduced their friends to a serial predator. At the time, Davidson appeared to be a rising star, enjoying newfound attention and seemingly believing it entitled him to pursue any woman he desired, as revealed in court.
The Crimes and Conviction
Ross Davidson was sentenced to 14 years in prison after being found guilty of two counts of rape, an attempted rape, three sexual assaults, and two charges of voyeurism, committed between 2013 and 2019. The court revealed Davidson believed his growing fame gave him license to sexually assault women.
The author’s account underscores the deceptive nature of predators and the devastating impact of sexual violence. Davidson’s criminal behavior was ongoing for years before his arrest in 2023.
