A newly released Department of Justice (DOJ) report, initiated under former President Donald Trump, alleges that the Biden administration systematically targeted pro-life activists by weaponizing the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act. This nearly 900-page report is based on a review of approximately 700,000 internal DOJ records.
Allegations of Biased Enforcement
The report accuses the Biden administration of biased enforcement of the FACE Act. It claims the administration pursued harsher sentencing, employed aggressive arrest tactics, and collaborated with pro-abortion groups for surveillance. Inappropriate comments about religion were also noted.
According to the report, there was a significant increase in FACE Act prosecutions against pro-life individuals during President Biden's term compared to previous administrations. The report suggests these actions were disproportionately focused on pro-life activists.
Collaboration with Pro-Abortion Groups
The DOJ's 'Weaponization Working Group' compiled the report, highlighting focused efforts to prosecute pro-life activists. Over 45 defendants in more than 20 cases related to pro-life demonstrations were charged.
The investigation reveals collaborations between the DOJ and pro-abortion groups such as the National Abortion Federation (NAF), Planned Parenthood, and the Feminist Majority Foundation (FMF). These groups allegedly provided information to the DOJ and FBI regarding pro-life activists' activities and locations.
Exploiting Relationships for Information
These abortion groups reportedly exploited their relationship with the DOJ's 'National Task Force on Violence Against Reproductive Health Care Providers.' This allowed them to gain internal information and influence the targeting of individuals for FACE Act enforcement.
NAF Resource Guide Cited
A specific example cited involves a law enforcement resource guide compiled by the NAF before a national event by Operation Save America. This guide allegedly contained detailed dossiers of pro-life individuals, including personal identifying information, photographs, and details on their affiliations and activities.
This information was allegedly used by the Biden DOJ to pursue FACE Act charges, illustrating the report's claims of collaboration and selective enforcement.
Criticism of DOJ Officials
The report specifically criticizes Civil Rights Division (CRT) Trial Attorney Sanjay Patel, who directed the Task Force. Patel is accused of coordinating with pro-abortion groups, particularly the NAF, to identify and target pro-life activists.
Routine communication between Patel and NAF Security Director Michelle Davidson is highlighted. Davidson was described as instrumental in bringing incidents to Patel's attention, leading to investigations and prosecutions. The report indicates Patel shared significant information with the NAF, allegedly without his supervisors' knowledge.
Use of 'Conspiracy Against Rights' Charge
The DOJ's use of a KKK-era charge, 'conspiracy against rights,' in conjunction with the FACE Act is also scrutinized. The report alleges this was done to increase sentencing for pro-life activists.
The report implies that this collaboration, data sharing, and the application of such legal charges reflect a concerted effort by the Biden administration to suppress pro-life activism. The report aims to restore fairness and impartiality to the enforcement of the FACE Act and the broader justice system.
