Acer has unveiled the Predator Atlas 7, a compact handheld gaming PC designed for a North American launch in late 2024. The device features a 7-inch 1080p display and is powered by a non-Extreme Intel Arc chip.
The 10 Xe3 core Intel Arc B370 trade-off
Acer is pivoting from the high-end performance of its larger sibling to a more efficient, compact model . While the Atlas 8 utilizes the more powerful Arc B390, the Atlas 7 will instead rely on the Intel Arc B370. This means the device features 10 Xe3 GPU cores rather than 12. According to the report, this shift is intended to maximize efficiency on the CPU side to allow the GPU to perform effectively during gameplay.
To compensate for the smaller footprint, Acer has included a generous 80Wh battery and support for up to 24GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD storage. This makes the Atlas 7 a surprisingly capable machine on paper,even as it moves away from the "Extreme" specifications seen at Computex 2026.
Aeroblade fans and TMR sticks for hardware longevity
To prevent thermal throttling, Acer is employing a dual-fan cooling solution within the Atlas 7 chassis. This setup combines a plastic fan with a metal Predator Aeroblade fan to expel heat during sustained gaming sessions. The design aims to keep the Intel chip running efficiently even under heavy loads.
Beyond cooling ,Acer is addressing the common issue of hardware wear through the use of TMR (tunneling magnetoresistance) thumbsticks. These components are designed to offer better resistance to stick drift and breakage compared to standard alternatives. The device also features a dish-shaped D-pad and recessed buttons, though the actual tactile quality of these controls remains unverified without hands-on testing.
The struggle for SteamOS compatibility on Intel Arc hardware
The handheld market is currently navigating a transition period regarding operating systems. As the report notes,the industry is still waiting for Valve or Intel to develop SteamOS compatibility for devices powered by Intel Arc architecture. Consequently, the Predator Atlas 7 will launch as a Windows-based handheld.
This positioning places Acer in direct competition with premium devices like the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+, which features the Arc G3 chip but carries a much higher price tag of $1,800. Acer's success will likely depend on whether they can offer a more accessible entry point into the Windows handheld ecosystem.
Will Acer hit the $1,300 price target?
The most significant unknown for potential buyers is the final retail price of the Atlas 7. While Acer has confirmed a North American launch for Q4, they have not yet disclosed whether the device will be priced near the $1,300 mark common among competing handhelds. This missing detail makes it difficult to determine if the Atlas 7 is a true value proposition.
Additionally, while the 80Wh battery is large on paper, real-world endurance under high brightness and heavy workloads remains an open question .
