Carys Douglas, the 23-year-old daughter of Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas, is making her mark in the theater world as an Off-Broadway producer.
From Brown University to Broadway
Following her graduation from Brown University, Carys has initiated an open call for script submissions. The selected play will be performed at a prominent Off-Broadway venue. This marks a significant step in her career, building upon the theatrical foundations laid by her Oscar-winning parents.
Open Call for Playwrights
Carys announced the open call for submissions via Instagram, stating the chosen play will be staged in a rehearsal space at one of Off-Broadway’s leading theaters. The submission deadline is May 14, with rehearsals scheduled to begin next month and performances anticipated in mid-July.
Collaboration and Background
Carys is co-producing the project with Teniayo-Ola Macaulay, a friend she met while studying film and international relations at Brown University in Rhode Island. She has been immersed in the arts throughout her life, though she didn't formally study acting.
Family Legacy in Theater
Both Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas have extensive backgrounds in theater. Catherine, 56, began her career in Welsh theater as a child and later achieved success in London’s West End before winning an Oscar for Chicago and a Tony Award for A Little Night Music. Michael, 81, started at The American Place Theatre in New York and gained recognition at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center in the 1960s.
Despite acknowledging the challenges of the industry, Catherine and Michael have consistently supported their children’s artistic endeavors. Catherine noted in 2021 that while they may have considered other paths, their children’s dedication to acting was undeniable.
Beyond Production: Acting and Activism
Carys’s brother, Dylan, 25, also a Brown University graduate, has pursued a career in entertainment and political activism. He hosts the radio program Young American with Dylan Douglas and has appeared in films like I Will Come to You.
Carys herself has acting credits in the 2024 short films Shell and F**k That Guy, which premiered at the Champs-Élysées Film Festival in Paris. During her time at Brown, she interned at Rolling Stone magazine and Ark Media, and studied International Relations at King’s College London.
With her latest venture, Carys Douglas is forging her own path in the arts while honoring her parents’ legacy.
