Alex Jones, the popular presenter of The One Show and potential new host of Strictly Come Dancing, is embarking on a significant renovation project at her recently purchased £2.8 million Georgian mansion in Ascot, Berkshire.

A Historic Property with a New Chapter

Jones, 49, acquired the four-bedroom property in July 2024, even before her husband, Charlie Thomson, had a chance to view it. She secured the house by writing a heartfelt letter to the previous owner, Penelope, explaining why it would be the ideal home for her family.

From Rockstars to a Growing Family

The mansion previously belonged to John Lennon and Ringo Starr. Upon returning from New Zealand, Charlie Thomson immediately fell in love with the house, describing it as feeling like home. The property is located in a desirable area where similar homes sell for an average of almost £1.3 million.

A Move for Family and Wellbeing

Alex, Charlie, and their three children – Teddy (9), Kit (6), and Annie (4) – moved from West London seeking a quieter, country lifestyle. Alex has noted a significant improvement in her children’s health since the move, with persistent coughs disappearing due to the cleaner air.

Decades of Renovation Ahead

The renovation is expected to be a long-term undertaking, potentially spanning decades. The couple plans to overhaul the layout, adding a single-storey extension for a larger kitchen diner overlooking the gardens.

Interior and Exterior Transformations

Upstairs, four new bedrooms will be added. Downstairs, four rooms – a study and dining area – will be combined to create a more open living space. The interior, currently reflecting the tastes of the previous elderly owner with features like handrails, will be completely updated. The existing kitchen, largely untouched since 1976, includes an antique fridge and a heated tea towel cupboard.

The couple may temporarily reside in the property’s outbuilding while the main house undergoes extensive renovations. The renovation is a labor of love for the family, and Alex’s potential new role on Strictly Come Dancing could help fund the project.
