Korah Collegiate and Vocational School's Fashion program is organizing a community event focused on sustainable fashion practices. The event, scheduled for April 30th, will feature a thrift sale and a special movie screening.

Promoting Sustainable Fashion and Upcycling

The initiative is part of a new Fashion course at Korah, emphasizing intentional style, individuality, and eco-conscious choices. Students are learning to move away from fast fashion by embracing thrifting and upcycling existing garments. They are creatively transforming clothing through techniques like embroidery, patchwork, and hand painting.

This hands-on approach aims to reduce textile waste and promote conscious consumerism. Students are developing their skills while understanding the environmental impact of fashion choices. Their dedication has resulted in remarkable upcycled creations.

Community Consignment Thrift Sale

The Community Consignment Thrift Sale invites community members to participate by donating gently used clothing. Students will sort, price, and merchandise these items for the sale, which runs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the school's small gym.

Proceeds from the sale will be split, with 50 percent going to consignors and the remaining funds supporting the school's Fashion program. This initiative offers an affordable way for the community to refresh wardrobes while supporting a circular economy model.

Red Carpet Movie Night: 'The Devil Wears Prada'

Following the thrift sale, a Red Carpet Movie Night will feature the film 'The Devil Wears Prada'. The red carpet experience begins at 7:30 p.m., with the movie screening at 8 p.m. in the school auditorium.

Attendees are encouraged to dress in stylish attire. Tickets are $10, with all proceeds benefiting the Fashion program, including support for a planned trip related to the movie's sequel.

Media Invitation and Event Goals

Media representatives are invited to attend and engage with students, view their upcycled designs, and learn about their creative processes. The school hopes the event will inspire sustainable fashion practices and foster community engagement.

Organizers anticipate a successful event that promotes responsible consumption, supports the Fashion program, and provides a memorable experience for all participants. This initiative highlights the school's commitment to practical skills, creativity, and responsible citizenship.
