MEXC recently observed a massive spike in trading activity across several major digital assets.. This surge coincided with Bitcoin's climb past the $80,000 mark, though interest in Ethereum and Solana appeared to outpacce the market leader in specific growth metrics.
The 299% jump in multi-asset trading volume
The recent market movement on the MEXC platform suggests a broader trend of capital rotation within the digital asset ecosystem.. Rather than Bitcoin acting as the sole driver of liquidity, traders are increasingly spreading their bets across a wider array of high-performing assets.
According to MEXC, the average daily Spot trading volume for BTC, ETH, SOL, and XRP saw a massive 299% increase between August 20 and August 22 compared to the earlier part of the month. This indicates that the market's appetite for volatility is not limited to a single asset.
A 16.2 percentage point shift on August 19
The shift toward altcoins actually began before Bitcoin's major price milestone on August 19. As MEXC reported, the combined trading share of ETH, SOL, and XRP jumped from 30.5% to 46.7% on that day, representing the largest single-day gain for those assets in August.
SOL and XRP outperforming BTC's 164% growth
On August 25, when Bitcoin finally broke the $80,000 barrier, the growth in other assets was even more dramatic. While BTC volume rose by 164%, Solana and XRP each saw their trading volumes surge by approximately 500% on the MEXC platform.
By August 27, Ethereum and Solana were driving much of the platform's activity as they approached six-month highs. On that day, ETH volume grew by 36.3% and SOL volume increased by 109.7%, making them the primary engines of the day's trading activity.
Will zero-fee SOL and XRP pairs sustain the rotation?
While the data highlights a clear trend, several questions remain regarding the long-term drivers of this activity. It is unclear if this surge is a permanent structural shift in how traders use MEXC or a temporary reaction to Bitcoin's price action.
Additionally, while MEXC offers zero-fee trading on specific SOL and XRP pairs to attract these users, the report does not clarify how this strategy will evolve if trading volume shifts back toward Bitcoin.. Whether these fee incentives can successfully lock in the momentum of this multi-asset rotation remains to be seen.
