According to the report, 23-year-old Jacob Matusiak was filmed in a May TikTok clip driving recklessly through a neighborhood and swerving onto an estate's green. The footage reportedly showed the vehicle careening down a footpath while the driver steered with only one hand.
Similarly, 18-year-old Makai Saddington had reportedly shared videos on TikTok showing him participating in high-speed police chases in the months leading up to the incident. this digital trail points to a culture of "joyriding" that may have escalated into the fatal encounter on the A66. the report notes that these videos appeared to document high-speed chases involving police over several months.
The ten-second window after the pursuit ended
The fatal collision occurred almost immediately after a police pursuit was abandoned. Cleveland Police reported that officers had been chasing the suspicious vehicle for seven minutes before calling off the pursuit as it reached the A66. Just ten seconds after the chase was aborted,the VW Passat—which authorities believe was using cloned license plates—ploughed into a separate armed-response vehicle.
This second vehicle, carrying PC Matthew Blades and PC Tom Clough, was not part of the original pursuit but had been alerted to the area by an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera. As the report states, the officers were in the area specifically because the plates on the Passat had triggered the camera system. The suddenness of the impact, occurring only moments after the pursuit was called off, underscores the volatility of the situation.
The loss of PC Matthew Blades and PC Tom Clough
