According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers heard a child crying from within the structure while it sat in a parking lot under the Georgia sun.
Body camera footage shows the tactical nature of the entry, with officers wearing body armor and armed with rifles aggressively ordering Lakesha Brown to keep her hands up. After the breach, officers successfully passed Zola and Norah between them to safety before apprehending Brown. The two girls were subsequently reunited with their mother in good health.
Lakesha Brown’s history of missing infants
Lakesha Brown faces multiple charges following a pattern of alleged infant disappearances across Georgia and Alabama. As reported by WSBTV, an arrest warrant notes that Brown was previously accused of kidnapping a four-day-old newborn, Kamarion Taylor, in Jefferson County, Alabama, in 2021. In that instance, the infant was eventually recovered safely.
Brown also faces allegations from a case in Paulding County, Georgia, involving the disappearance of a newborn. Court documents reviewed by FOX 5 detailed a suspicious investigation where police found burn barrels with maggots in the yard and missing newborn diapers.. In that specific case, a father reported that a photo of the infant made the child "did not look alive."
A cellphone ping that led to the trailer
The search for the Cooper children intensified after an Amber Alert was issued following their disappearance. The girls were last seen with Brown around 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, but their mother, Elicia Redding, did not report them missing until approximately 10:30 p.m. on Sunday. investigators were able to narrow their search area after Brown's cellphone pinged a location approximately five miles away from the initial disappearance site. This digital trail eventually led officers to the trailer where the girls were found rooughly 14 hours after the official missing persons report.
