Carnival Cruise Line is currently exploring a new complimentary lunch venue, named Chicken, Waffles & Waves, on a selection of its ships. This innovative dining spot combines fried chicken, waffles, and classic barbecue offerings.

Introducing Chicken, Waffles & Waves

The new venue aims to provide passengers with a diverse and convenient dining experience. It has been observed on several Conquest-class vessels, including the Carnival Freedom, Carnival Liberty, Carnival Glory, and Carnival Valor.

This offering appears to replace the previous barbecue-focused station, expanding the menu to include a wider range of comfort food. While barbecue remains a component, the addition of chicken and waffles broadens the choices for guests.

Menu Highlights and Offerings

The Chicken, Waffles & Waves concept is available on Deck 10 of ships like the Carnival Liberty. The name emphasizes the core items: chicken and waffles, served separately to allow guests to customize their meals.

Fried chicken options include classic, spicy, and hot honey glazed varieties, as well as chicken tenders with buffalo and Korean-style sauces. The barbecue selections feature slow-cooked pork butt and beef brisket.

Accompanying sides such as mac and cheese, coleslaw, and potato salad are also available. The concept draws inspiration from Carnival's existing collaborations, like Guy Fieri’s Pig & Anchor BBQ and Shaquille O’Neal’s Big Chicken, though it is not officially affiliated with them.

Guest Reception and Feedback

As a complimentary venue, Chicken, Waffles & Waves is a significant draw for budget-conscious travelers. Initial passenger feedback shared online, particularly on Reddit, has been largely positive regarding the variety and convenience. Many guests have noted shorter lines and easier access compared to the main buffet.

However, some feedback has pointed to areas for improvement. Concerns have been raised about the preparation of the fried chicken, with some finding it dry. Additionally, some guests suggested that the waffles could be crispier.

Carnival's Dining Strategy

This new lunch option aligns with Carnival's strategy of introducing quick, casual dining experiences. The cruise line has successfully implemented similar concepts, such as the Bagels at Sea breakfast option, which expanded fleet-wide after a successful trial.

Carnival's approach of testing new food concepts is designed to refine its onboard dining and better meet passenger preferences. Despite mixed feedback on specific items, the new chicken and waffles option is seen by some as a potential upgrade, especially if it can emulate the success of Shaq’s Big Chicken.

The cruise line is expected to consider all guest feedback as it evaluates the future of the Chicken, Waffles & Waves venue.
